Earth hour on march 28

In a symbolic fight against global warming, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has called on Malaysians to switch off non-essential lights for an hour, beginning 8.30pm on March 28.Such action would be in line with participating with an international movement, 'Earth Hour', said WWF Malaysia executive director Datuk Dr Dionysius S. K. Sharma. He said several iconic landmarks in the country such as Kuala Lumpur Tower, Angkasapuri, Sunway Pyramid and Mid Valley Megamall would join hands with landmarks in 74 other countries to observe 'Earth Hour'."The act of switching off non-essential lights is an effortless step that every person can take, to trigger a huge positive impact against climate change," he said during the launch of the Malaysian chapter of 'Earth Hour' here today."We aim to demonstrate unprecedented solidarity and provide a visual global mandate that will put heat on world leaders meeting at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this year," he added.Earth Hour Malaysia ambassador Yasmin Ahmad said it hoped to approach more corporate companies and government agencies, including the Putrajaya government complex and Sultan Abdul Samad building, to participate in the movement. The 'Earth Hour' movement has already proven itself in 2007 in Sydney, Australia where 2.2 million homes and businesses turned off their lights for an hour. For more information and to pledge support for Earth Hour 2009, log on to www.earthhour.org/malaysia.
